Day 2: Same challenge as yesterday - walk 15 - 30 min. at a comfortable pace, remembering to stretch. Pushed myself just a little. ;)
Playing Catch-up. Shin splints suck…
The morning rise hit early this morning. It usually doesn’t hit me until around 8am if it’s going to. This morning it hit around 6am. 135 when I got up, 253 before I left an hour later - without eating anything. Correction + Walk and I’m down to 157. Hope that’s the worst of it for today…
Well I got back on the Flylady wagon - I really needed to. I’m on day 13 of the beginner baby steps. It has really helped me get back into the swing of recording my blood sugars - something I tend to let go when I think I’m doing alright - because I make it part of my routines. I’m just perfectionist enough that if my routines say do it, I do it. I know Flylady works, lol.
I’ve brought my nightly Lantus down to 14 from 18 units (and lost 6 pounds!), but am still running low in the middle of the night and having that 8 am rise. I was 104 before I went to bed last night and drank about a half a cup of coke, figuring I would drop. My puppy (actually she’s about 9 or 10) woke me up at 5:30 this morning and I checked just because I was awake. 35. GOOD dog. ;)
I think I’m going to give it another night or 2 to settle down before going to 13.
My cat will wake me up too, if I lay down in the middle of the day. This usually means I’m sleepy and my blood sugar is out of whack - up OR down. He will come lay on my chest and very insistently not let me go to sleep, lol! This is the first time the dog has awakened me though. I don’t depend on them to know my sugar is off, but it’s nice to know they notice when something’s not right with the Mommy. ;)
My 15th wedding anniversary was fun and relaxing. We went out to eat and bought a couple of movies to watch. It was fun to see Logan’s Run again - wonder when they’re going to remake that one or bring back the series? I’d much rather see that than Dallas, lol!
Then a few days later, my oldest turned 24! He’s a real sweetheart, too - just like I always knew he would be. Rock on, kid! :)
Back to school for my youngest - getting her schedule tomorrow. She is not at all interested, lol. I can’t blame her, I hated high school too.
Then her birthday in a month and then the holidays begin. Where does the time go? Usually I’m not ready for summer to end, but this one has been so dreadful that I’m ready for the snow. ;)
How are y’all doing?!?!
I haven’t abandoned my page or anything - I got a new phone as an early anniversary gift from my sweet hubby. :) It’s a Droid, though and I’m used to the iPhone. So, I’ve been playing around with it and trying to get used to the differences, especially the smaller keyboard with my fat thumbs. LOL. And adjusting my eyes to the smaller screen. Gonna have to start wearing my reading glasses more often (can’t walk with them on or I bump into stuff and trip).
Anyway, I hope you all are doing well and hanging in there. Because of this place and all of you, I have been paying closer attention to my diabetes and have dropped my Lantus dose a couple if units plus lost 3 lbs. while keeping my BG in check. Seems to be easing the morning rise, as well. :D I’ll be back soon!
Thanks!
Part of my journey to remove refined sugars in my life left a huge sweet tooth begging to be satiated. Food is deeply meaningful to me as part of my spirituality and the joy and beauty of desserts is not something I want to give up.
My first reaction was to buy Splenda and some sugar free syrups…
When I was diagnosed (1978 - before fast-acting insulin was available) I was told to avoid ingredients ending in “ose” (like dextrose) and “in” (like dextrin), and to especially avoid honey because it was a sugar that acted like a fat (slower digestion).
I bought some Stevia in the Raw (packets) several months ago and was shocked to see dextrose in the ingredients. Granted, probably not enough to affect a rise in blood glucose levels, but…
Dextrose is listed BEFORE Stevia extract - which means there is more dextrose than Stevia in it, since ingredients are listed in order of amount, AND there’s only 2 ingredients in it. Hmmm…..
Go, Tarheels! :)
Anyone out there have both and willing to talk about it?
“To make Lantus, first the glargine is produced by a vat of E. coli bacteria. Then it’s purified and added to a watery solution containing a little zinc and some glycerol; a dash of hydrochloric acid is also added to make it acidic, bringing its pH down to about 4. At that degree of acidity, glargine completely dissolves into the watery solution, which is why the vial is clear.”
And:
“The acidic nature of Lantus can sometimes cause stinging at the injection site…”
